近年、学びはコミュニティに関与していく中で、他者との問題解決や理解を通じて行われる、という見方のもと、状況的学習論、社会文化的アプローチ、分散認知、日常認知等を理論的背景に、コンピュータを用いた協調学習支援環境CSCL(Computer Supported Collaborative Learning)の研究が盛んに行われている。一方、技術的には、ワイヤレス通信やPDA(Personal Digital Assistant)等のモバイル端末などを用いた日常的コンピュータ技術(everyday computing technology)の普及により、いつでもどこでもコンピュータやネットワークが利用できる、ユビキタスコンピューティング環境が現実のものとなりつつある。そこで、このような技術を用いて、日常的生活の中で、どのようにして学習者に適した形で学びを支援していくか、ということが問題となる。本研究の目的は、ワイヤレス・モバイル端末を用いたユビキタスコンピューティング環境において、学習者の知的好奇心を触発し、日常的な学びを支援する「ユビキタス協調学習環境」をデザインし、実際にシステムを開発・評価することである。特に、(1)学習者の興味や現在の状況、周囲の環境などから判断して、知的好奇心を触発する,知識アウェアネス情報を提供し、学習を促進する方法。(2)学習者中心の学習デザインに立ち、いつでもどこでも利用できるだけでなく、適切な場所で適切な時に適切な教材や解決方法RTRPL(Right Time and Right Place learning)を提供する方法。これら2つの手法を新しく提案し評価を行う。
