We have prepared the database of listed family firms in Japan. Based on the database we have drafted a paper titled: "Does foreign shareholders promote the performance of family firms in Japan?" We have also prepared case studies of Japanese family firms. The cases are based on field visits and interview with two Japanese family firms; One is a hamburger chain company and the other is a beverage company. For the first firm, we investigated their finance, marketing, and management strategies compared to a competitor. For the second firm, we investigated their management and marketing strategies to promote their products, namely new kind of spirits (Japanese Vodka). In addition, we finished three papers and got them published: The first one (Kojima) reviews family business related articles in accounting literature. The second one (Sugahara) conducts comparative social impacts study among Korea, Japan and Taiwan. The third one (Kutsuna et al.) is a book that investigates relationship between family business and academics.
