研究実績の概要 |
The achievements can be summarized as follows. (1) The influent to a local activated sludge-based wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in Ibaraki Prefecture has been analyzed and characterized, which provides useful information for the preparation of synthetic wastewater used in the lab. The general energy and resources recovery potential has also been estimated in the context of this WWTP. (2) Our experiments proved that the mixture algae separated and cultivated from the algal-bacterial granules could form algae granules successfully under the designed operation conditions, and the formed algae granules with good settleability and pollutants removal contained highly bioavailable P. (3) Some typical operation conditions including light illumination, low carbon wastewater, and no mechanical aeration have been examined on the stability and performance of the algal-bacterial granules, which will be further optimized in the coming year. The dynamic changes in biological communities have also been analyzed under the test conditions. (4) Two major algae species have been isolated from the mature algal-bacterial granules with their functions being identified, which showed excellent nutrients (N and P) removal and aggregation capability. Currently these two algae species together with two commercially functional algae are still being tested for their granulation capability and operation stability. The above results have been partially summarized in 7 publications in high quality journals and 4 presentations in domestic/international conferences. Another 4 papers are still under review.

理由
This is a four-year project. Up to the present, we almost did 1/3~1/2 of the designed experiments. Hope we could achieve more meaningful results in the coming year.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In the coming year, we will continue this research which mainly focuses on the following aspects: (1) We’ll further identify and confirm the aggregation and resources accumulation capabilities of the two major algae species isolated from the mature algal-bacterial granules. (2) Comparison will be conducted among the two major algae species isolated from the mature algal-bacterial granules and the commercially functional algae like Ankistrodesmus sp.. (3) Four typical lab-scale wastewater treatment systems, including a)S1 and S2, a batch- and continuous-flow activated floc sludge systems, and b) S3 and S4, a batch- and a continuous-flow algal-bacterial granule systems, will be established and operated. Much attention will be paid to pollutants removal, resources accumulation, biomass production, and energy consumption and recovery. Results from the above works will be used for the optimization of the lab-scale algal-bacterial granule system.
