研究実績の概要 |
During year 2020, the followings have been confirmed. (1) Granulation can be successfully achieved from single cell microalgae by using the similar operation strategy as for naturally growing algae and for activated sludge. (2) Algal-bacterial aerobic granular sludge (AGS) system has higher and stable potentials for P removal and recovery from wastewater with low energy/carbon source consumption and less influence by salinity due to the co-existence of algae. (3) Algal-bacterial AGS also possesses higher potential for Cr biosorption and recovery from wastewater under neutral condition, mainly attributable to its effective bioreduction capability, intracellular accumulation and algae participation. (4) The profits by using this novel system have been estimated in the context of a local wastewater treatment plant.

理由
We have finished most of the designed experiments. Based on the fruitful results from this project during the past three years, we are planning to extend our focus to a new research direction of this novel wastewater treatment system this year.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
(1) to further confirm the resources (especially phosphorus and alginate-like exopolysaccharides) and energy recovery potentials from the continuous operation of the algal-bacterial AGS system. (2) to compare the differences in energy/resources recovery and greenhouse gases emission reduction between the bacterial AGS and algal-bacterial AGS systems; and (3) to establish the preliminary model for the algal-bacterial AGS system in the context of a local wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), i.e., Shimodate WWTP in Ibaraki Prefecture.
