研究実績の概要 |
First we have completed framing the research project both in theoretical and empirical terms. We have achieved the following research activities in AY 2018. 1) Data collection at war-related museums and war-heritage sites through fieldwork in 6 countries: China (Nanjing), Vietnam (Hanoi, Quang Tri), South Korea (Seoul), Japan (Okinawa, Chiran), Germany (Berlin), and the UK (Norwich), focusing on collecting documents, educational materials, museum visitors' notes, and pictures at museums, as well as critical analysis of narratives provided through the content and forms of those sites; 2) Interviews with stakeholders (museum managers, museum visitors, public school teachers in Japan, and a member of an educational board in Japan; 3) On-going literature review on educational dark tourism, memory-making of war; 4) Transcribing some of the interviews conducted; 5) Holding a research workshop, where the project members organized an international seminar titled "Deep and shallow perspectives on dark tourism in the Asia-Pacific region: A new framework for engagement", inviting an international expert of dark tourism from Griffith University to speak on the subject matter; 6) Presentations of research results at international conferences; and 7) Paper publication for an international journal and a book chapter.

理由
1) Field work in Vietnam (Sept 2018) include: Fieldwork in Hanoi and central Vietnam (Quang Tri);interviews with stakeholders of the travel industry and museum managers and transcription of the interviews. 2) Field work in China (Sept 2018) include: Nanjing Massacred Museum and Museum of Comfort Women; collecting narratives, pictures and documentary for analysis. 3) Fieldwork in Korea (March 2019) include: Seungdemum Museum, Museum of colonial history, Museum of Comfort Women; interviews with the manager of Museum of colonial history and the manager of Museum of Comfort Women. 4) Fieldwork in Chiran (Nov. 2018), collecting pictures, books and documentary about the suicide pilots for analysis; 5) Fieldwork in Okinawa (March 2019)include: collecting pictures and books and the memorial museum analytical observation through its narrative; interview with the manager of the museum. 6) Interviews with junior high school teachers in Beppu, Oita (March 2019), 7) Interview with an Oita Prefecture School Board member about educational school trips in Japan (March 2019), 8) International workshop ("Deep and shallow perspectives on dark tourism in the Asia-Pacific region: A new framework for engagement"), inviting an international expert on dark tourism, Prof. David Weaver of Griffith University

今後の研究の推進方策 |
We are planning the following activities for AY 2019: 1) Complete transcribing (and partly translating) all interviews conducted; 2) Develop literature review further; 3) Conduct interviews with: (a) museum managers (Chiran, Hiroshima, Nagasaki Peace Museums, Seoul War Museum), (b) elementary school teachers (Oita, Fukuoka), (c) high school teachers (Oita, Fukuoka, Hiroshima), (d) travel agencies (Fukuoka, Tokyo, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Seoul); 4) Submit journal papers, 5) Submit sample chapters for Routledge monograph; 6) Presentations at international conferences (Association of Asian Studies in Asia in July, Annual Conference of European Southeast Asian Studies in September, Asia Pacific Conference in November)
