In 2019 fiscal year, we have continued to prepare and set up our experiment at the new 7T MRI scanner of Human Brain Research Center. Because the 7T MRI scanner is a completely new device, there is no available data on how to set up the experimental parameters. We have continued to collect the data of another 25 subjects for optimizing parameters of data acquisition and then how to analyze MRI data acquired at 7T. This is considered as an initial step for setting up our bilingual experiment in the future. The data were collected with four different conditions of multiband and parallel imaging methods while the subjects were asked to perform the classic motor finger tapping task inside the MRI scanners. By comparing the brain activation of these four conditions, we could decide which parameter is the best one for data acquisition. It is well known that the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is increasing at 7T MRI in comparison with 3T scanner. On the other hand, the sensitivity with noise (such as respiratory pulses, head movements, ..etc) is also increasing which can induce the false positive activation. Therefore, for data analysis we’re performing: 1) without denoising; 2) with denoising at data preprocessing step. The comparison between these two analysi methods will help us to confirm whether or not we should perform the denoising as routine step for data analysis acquired at 7T.

理由
Because the 7MRI scanner is very new device in the field of MRI research. In Japan, at present there are only 5 machines throughout the whole country. Although there are many researches on 7T MRI scanner, most of them are focusing on exploring the potential of 7T scanner in detecting the structure of our brain. The number of published articles on functional brain study at 7T is till limited, which mean that there are few references on experimental setting for data acquisition and analysis. So is take longer time for us to test things from data acquisition to data analysis as we initially planned.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
We will continue to finish the data analysis for setting up the experiment that 7T and the acquisition parameters as well as analysis methods will be decided. Then after, we will recruit the bilingual subjects for our main experiments. The recruitment will be conducted at universities in Kyoto, Osaka or Kansai areas for collecting high-qualified bilingual subjects (Chinese or Vietnamese native speakers who can speak Japanese and English fluently). The MRI data collection for bilingual population will be done in this fiscal year 2020.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
This year we conducted the preliminary study for setting up the experiment at our new 7T MRI scanner, the number of subjects were needed less than the number of subjects we planned for our main experiment so the amount of the money which was planned to be used for MRI using fee and compensation fee for participants were not completely used as initially planned. We will use the remain amount of the budget for MRI using fee and compensation fee for bilingual participants in 2020 year. In addition we will use this budget for purchasing necessary things for data analysis such as computer, software, books. We also plan to use the budget for attending academic congress for presenting our study results as well as for publishing fee for the article.
