研究実績の概要 |
I recruited an additional 8 patient narratives from foreign-born residents. There are now 38 narratives in the corpus. Audio files and transcripts are now freely available for use with nursing and other medical students on the project website (https://sites.google.com/st.fukujo.ac.jp/nonjapanesepatientnarratives).
A preliminary analysis of the narratives found foreign & immigrant patients holding different expectations related to three areas: privacy, informed consent, and mental health support.
I revised the 15-week, narrative-based course for fourth-year nursing students, sharing the listening transcripts and adding a role-play in which students advocate for the patient in the narrative. I have received requests for access to the narratives from other nursing English instructors.

理由
Even the use of online groups has not resulted in an increased pace of gathering narratives. However, the existing narratives are online, transcripts have been made, and the narratives are now being analyzed for themes.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
This year, I will create online materials targeting listening comprehension and cultural competency, and perform the analysis outlined in the proposal. I plan to report on my research at relevant domestic and international conferences.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
I plan to attend relevant domestic and international conferences to share my research and resources with other nursing English and medical English educators. If possible, I would like to continue gathering narratives.
