研究実績の概要 |
I presented at a national conference within Japan and an international conference in Portugal through an online platform. On both occasions, I presented the latest findings of my research. I also published some findings in a peer reviewed paper. In addition, I organized J-CLIL Tohoku webinars on CLIL and heritage language education and conducted questionnaires with heritage language teachers from Europe and America. The webinars were well attended with heritage language teachers participating from throughout the world. The first webinar included highly respected scholars who I have been consulting with on the research I have been doing. The success of the webinar and demand among the heritage teacher community led me to organize and present at the second international webinar that I organized. At this seminar I presented findings from questionnaires given to heritage language teachers throughout Europe and America. Through this research I have created many contacts with schools, associations and teachers who are very interested in participating in my future research.

理由
In comparison to last year, as a result of workarounds with respect to doing research in the climate of Covid 19, my research is progressing rather smoothly. I presented research findings at online international conferences, published a paper and have made inroads in terms of networking and getting teachers interested in my research not from both the UK and Japan but throughout Europe and America. Like last year I will have to adapt my I will therefore, have to adapt my research approach in accordance with health and travel considerations.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus I have had to adapt how I will conduct this research in the future especially as we are still in the midst of the pandemic and have restrictions on travel. For this year I have organized and will be conducting online workshops with heritage language teachers across the world with an emphasis on teachers of Japanese as a heritage language. These workshops will include a forum / training for teachers who teach second languages as a heritage language. I will also be working with UK based academic associations such as the Japan Foundation and other academics I have met through this research. I am also in negotiations to edit a book with researchers who specialize in heritage language education and plan to try and start this during the year. As I will not be able to visit schools in the current climate I intend to interview teachers online with regards to their teaching practices and philosophy and explore the possibility of syllabus design at a heritage language school with teachers interested in the project.
