研究実績の概要 |
In the period between 2019 to the present moment, important materials were collected about the first Japanese community settled in the State of Para;, especially in the 1920s. I collected many regional periodicals of that period and I'm currently analysing them. In 2020, 11 interviews were conducted with descendants of Japanese families in the region considered "The Lower Amazon region". In addition, a lecture was given to students of the Pedagogy Course at the Education Institute of the Federal University of Mato Grosso, on the theme: "The main educational and cultural contributions of Japanese immigrants in rural areas of the State of Para;" and another lecture, at the State University of Mato Grosso - UNEMAT, entitled: “The main contributions of Japanese immigrants to the economy and agriculture in the State of Para;.” Finally, important meetings were held in Brazil with teachers and technicians specialized in international immigration, who are connected to historical and regional centers in the State of Para; and the State of Mato Grosso.

理由
Currently, I'm gathering information to build a historical study about the first Japanese community in the Amazon region, between 1915-1940. I intendo to study the educational, economic and cultural contributions of the Japanese immigrant community in the abovementioned region. For this, it is necessary to answer several important questions: a) Who were the first Japanese families to arrive in the State of Para? b) What were the periods of arrival in Para, c) Was it immigration on a large scale over a long periodo d) Was it gradual? e) Is there a specific and isolated period? f) What is the geographical origin of Japanese immigrants? g) How were these families composed? h) The immigrants were predominantly male, as was the case with Italian, Spanish and Portuguese immigrants in Brazil at the same time? i) In what economic activities did these families engage? j) What were the reasons why these immigrants specify economic activities? and l) What is the role of education in the rise of the most important Japanese families in the rural areas of the State of Pará? I hope to answer this important and relevant questions during the current period.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
During the future research period I intend to colect historical materials in two research centers that I consider to be of great relevance to the research topic. One of these centers is the Cultural Foundation of the State of Para; (CENTUR), which has a still unexplored and invaluable collection of periodicals and documents related to Japanese immigration in the Amazon region. The other center, is the Regional Center for Historical Information and Documentation (NDIHR-UFMT), at the Federal University of Mato Grosso, in the city of Cuiaba, which also maintains in its collection many unknown documents about the arrival of Japanese immigrants in the region of Amazon. The objective i is to focus my efforts on the study of these collections because there are considerable indications that they can assist in answering the questions previously established in the current project.
