Getting all the data and material together for public presentation is taking time, but the principal researcher did present an aspect of the project at a professional conference at Waseda University in August of 2019:
Wood, D.C. 2019. Domination and (Effective?) Local Resistance in Northeastern Japan: Class Struggle in the Contemporary City and in the 1930s Village. Society for East Asian Anthropology (American Anthropological Association) annual conference, Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan (Aug. 2).

理由
Much progress was made in the previous year. The researcher is confident that the translation portion of the project will be completed before the end of the final year of the grant period. However, its publication might be delayed due to the effects that the Covid-19 pandemic is having on the publishing industry in the USA.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
During the final year of the project, the translation of the 1938 book will be completed. In addition, the groundwork for a biographical book on the author of the 1938 book will be prepared. Preparations are also being made for a future ethnographic study of the village in which he lived in the 1930s.

| 次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
An assistant will probably need to be paid, and more materials will need to be purchased. If possible, the principal researcher will travel to Tokyo and Yokohama to obtain materials. A new computer and/or some data storage (e.g., a hard drive), and a scanner, may also be necessary.
