| 研究実績の概要 |
Highlights of 2018 include the following:
(i) Project member, Jordi Quoidbach, visited Tokyo, and we brainstormed over the project for a week. We started to run statistical models and to test our hypotheses. (ii) I visited the U.S. to work with project member, Christopher Browning. We discussed and wrote down programs to conduct further statistical modeling. (iii) I completed the international project on International Panel on Social Progress (IPSP), and co-authored a 44-page chapter on "social justice and well-being" which was published by Cambridge University Press. (iv) I worked on a project about happiness in Japan, with Francesco Sarracino and Kelsey O'Connor, who are two econometricians from the National Institute of Statistics in Luxembourg.

理由
Our statistical analyses requires (3-level) multi-level modeling, with individuals (level 1) nested within time (level 2) nested within countries (level 3). Data preparation has been more challenging than anticipated as there are 1.5 million observations across 15 years and 176 countries. We spent much of 2018 identifying and collecting explanatory variables at the country-level which have high explanatory power and at the same time have broad coverage of all 176 countries. These variables were then merged back into the main dataset, and prepared for multi-level analyses. The data are now in good shape for analyses.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
In 2019, I will arrange meetings with our project members to brainstorm, and to conduct statistical analyses as a group. We plan to draft our research topic of "inequality and happiness" by the end of the year.

| 次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
We used less than our allocated budget for 2018 as we travelled less than expected. We plan to arrange meetings during the year, and will be using up more of our budget for 2019.

From 2105 to 2018, I was involved in the international project, International Panel on Social Progress (IPSP). IPSP final report was published in 2018 as 3 volume set from Cambridge University Press.
