| 研究実績の概要 |
Our project was once again significantly affected by COVID-19 in 2021. I requested another one-year extension, which was recently approved.
In order to remain productive and keep the publication record on track, I spent much of 2021 prioritizing the publication of three papers which were invited for resubmission: (1) Economic growth and well-being (with Francesco Sarracino and Kelsey O’Connor), (2) Covid-19, telework and life satisfaction (with Takeshi Mori), and (3) Covid-19, telework and the future of work in Japan. (1) and (2) have now been published. I also started writing a paper together with Shige Oishi and his colleague on the topic of "money and happiness" using international happiness data.
In addition to my publication activities, I presented our work at various academic conferences such as the Japanese Economic Association meeting and the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics conference. I was also invited to speak at academic institutions such as Indiana University and Texas A&M University.

理由
Our project was significantly affected by COVID-19 in 2021. I had set aside time and budget for in-person meetings, brainstorming, academic and seminar presentations, etc. but most were either cancelled or postponed. I thus requested a one-year extension, which was recently approved.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
I look forward to getting our project back on track this year. I would also like to continue exploring the relationship between COVID-19 and subjective well-being, as this is a very important development in our lives going forward.
I would also like to prioritize the publication of the two papers that are currently under review on the topic of (1) Covid-19, telework and the future of work in Japan, and (2) money and happiness (with Shige Oishi, Youngjae Cha and Asuka Komiya).

| 次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
We were unable to use our budget for travel and meetings as planned in 2020 because of COVID-19. If and when travel restrictions are lifted, I would like to attend academic conferences and seminars in-person. I presented our research project online several times in 2021. I was able to communicate the main points of the research, but online presentations are less effective than are in-person presentations.
