研究実績の概要 |
I have achieved two key activities in FY2019.
First, I have further developed papers from research results of prior years. More precisely, (i) the paper titled ‘Financial Development and Banking Sector Stability’, co-authored with Dr. Kaveepong Lertwachara of Chulalongkorn University (Thailand) and Dr. Pattana Boonchoo of Mahidol University (Thailand), which was presented at Western Economic Association International (WEAI)’ s 15th International Conference, was revised and submitted for publication in 国民経済雑誌, 神戸大学 (publication schedule in September 2020). (ii) The paper titled ‘Financial openness, financial markets development and economic growth’, co-authored with Prof. Chaiporn Vithessonthi of Sunway University (Malaysia), was submitted to International Review of Financial Analysis, but received recommendation from Editor to transfer to the alternative journals. We are revising the paper for submission.
Second, studying experiences of financial development in advanced countries and across countries, I outlined model of financial development in Greater Mekong subregion (GMS). The model has been discussed with scholars and experts in Thailand and at WEAI conference in San Francisco, USA (28 June - 2 July 2019). For example, discussion with Dr. Rungpong Vongsaroj, Director of Center for ASEAN and Asia Studies at National Institute of Development Administration, scholars at Thammasat Business School, Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology, Thammasat University, College of Management Mahidol University, and Chulalongkorn University.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
The last phase of the project (Phase 3) aims to extract implications for policy makers and firms. A workshop to hear opinions and get comments from relating parties, for instance, scholars, policy makers, private sector on research implications for practical uses in the GMS countries will be organized in Bangkok, Thailand. Analyses of workshop results and the integration of quantitative and qualitative research results will be done to improve the financial development models for the GMS countries.
A new paper based on the research results of FY2020 will be developed for a conference presentation and later will be submitted to a journal for publication. To broaden practical implications of research results, collaboration to share research findings is planned to be done, for example, with Center for ASEAN and Asia Studies of National Institute of Development Administration, Sasin Japan Center of Chulalongkorn University, and Business Excellence Unit of College of Management, Mahidol University.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
The budget was prepared for attending the Academy of Finance 2020 Conference, which was scheduled to be held in Chicago, USA during 25-27 March 2020. The conference was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic so the budget has been transferred to FY2020. This amount of budget will be used for attending another conference or for doing field research in the GMS countries in FY2020. The precise plan in FY2020 depends on the situation of coronavirus pandemic.
