研究実績の概要 |
Research base in FY2021 was at the ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue, College of Management, Mahidol University, Thailand. Because of regulations to mitigate the pandemic, meetings, cross-province travels and access to research facilities were strictly controlled. Thus, in the first half of FY2021, online meetings with research collaborator from Sunway University Business School were held to discuss research results and develop a manuscript for publication.
The manuscript titled “Financial Openness and Financial Market Development” empirically examines the relationship between financial openness and financial market development in a sample of countries in seven regions over the period 1960-2019. While prior studies focused on the effect of financial openness on the depth of financial markets, particularly banking sector or financial markets in aggregate, we argue that measuring financial development only in terms of depth and only for banking sector ignores the heterogeneity in financial markets. Changes in the degree of financial openness are likely to have differential effects on the liquidity and efficiency of banking sector, debt market and equity market.
After some restrictions were lifted, research discussions with scholars of Mahidol University, Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University, Chiang Mai University, Prince of Songkla University, and Panyapiwat Institute of Management were done. I also did some presentations and participated as a discussant in an international conference on CSR, the Economy and Financial Markets.

理由
Because of the pandemic situation in the first half of FY2021, travels and face-to-face meetings could not take place. Research activities during this period mainly focused on paper writing. Idea exchanges and discussions with experts and scholars of the GMS countries were done after the restrictions to control the pandemic were relaxed. However, a seminar could not be organized by the time when my research term at the ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue ended in March 2022.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
This research project is in the last phase. I plan to conclude the project in FY2022 with two main tasks to be completed.
First, the manuscript titled “Financial Openness and Financial Market Development” is published or is accepted by a peer-reviewed journal in the Web of Science (WoS) for publication. This manuscript has been revised along the line of comments that were received from previous submissions. The revised manuscript will be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal in the WoS, tentatively in June 2022.
Second, a seminar to present research results to finance and economics scholars and to anyone who interest in financial development in the GMS is held either in the form of virtual or face-to-face conference.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
Because of the measures to mitigate the spread of coronavirus in many countries, international travel to present research results at a conference in the United States could not be done and a seminar to present research results to Thai and the GMS scholars could not be organized. After I have full vaccination in October 2021, a number of meetings with a small group of scholars at a time could be arranged at Chiang Mai University, Prince of Songkla University, and Panyapiwat Institute of Management during October 2021-March 2022.
