研究実績の概要 |
Over the past year I have expanded on the research project to examine the effect that education aid from both Asian and Western bilateral aid agencies has had on the political development of Cambodia. During the pandemic, the difficulty presented for traveling to both Southeast Asia and Europe has forced me to pursue other research and publishing opportunities such as two projects on online education in higher education in Japan and globally. Nevertheless, I have published one paper in a refereed journal despite the obstacles presented by the pandemic. If travel becomes possible, I very much look forward to traveling to international conferences to present my research, receive feedback, and search for opportunities for collaborative research projects.

理由
Because of the pandemic I have not been able to travel abroad and do field research in either Cambodia or to the European nations where I need to visit the headquarters of their bilateral aid agencies. Nevertheless I have tried to pursue as many opportunities as possible to perform document analysis on policy documents from Western and Asian bilateral aid agencies as well as the Cambodian government in order to pursue my research project and be productive as a researcher. My hope is that the pandemic will subside and allow me to pursue extensive research during my sabbatical which will last from June 2022-August 2023 (pending university approval as well as a one-year extension of my kakenhi grant period).

今後の研究の推進方策 |
From May 2021 to May 2022, I intend to expand on my literature review and develop my theoretical framework as well as pursue opportunities to secure a book contract for my research. My sabbatical (research leave) is in the process of being approved for June 2022 to August 2023 which will afford me with 14 months during which time I can spend several months in both Cambodia and Europe to carry out fiedwork on the education projects in Cambodia financed by bilateral aid agencies from Europe and Asia as well as interviews in the bilateral aid agency headquarters in Europe and Asia. My intention will be to explore multiple opportunities to publish my findings as both research articles in academic journals and in book format during this final year of my kakenhi grant.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
The pandemic has made it impossible for me to travel abroad and pursue fieldwork such as studying education projects in Cambodia as well as archival research, policy document analysis, and interviews with bilateral aid agency staff in both Cambodia and Europe. My hope is that in AY2021 and AY2022 I will be able to return to my intended research schedule. I will have to gauge the safety of traveling and spending extended periods of time in foreign countries, but my hope is that the pandemic will have subsided by the time my 14-month long research sabbital starts in June 2022.
