研究実績の概要

During the past fiscal year, several sets of data were gathered, resulting in two papers published and two more accepted for publication during the new fiscal year.
Through a visit at a higher-education institution abroad, with a large number of international students, questionnaires and interviews were conducted and two peer-teaching sessions took place. The data acquired relates to students' perceptions and expectations of multicultural classrooms, thoughts on their experience with working in multicultural teams, as well as participating in classes taught in their non-native language. The interviews highlighted the challenges faced in the teaching, as well as the learning process, along with advantages and disadvantages of learning in multicultural environments.
Moreover, data was gathered during the courses taught at the local institution, in three different multicultural classrooms, with the focus on cultural differences and studying computer literacy, as well as similarities and differences between teaching and learning social sciences and natural sciences.
Furthermore, throughout the year, a thorough literature review was conducted, highlighting the state of the art of multicultural computer literacy education, as well as various aspects pertaining to teaching natural sciences as opposed to teaching social sciences.
The work will continue with gathering more data and continuously monitoring recent developments in teaching computer literacy and related subjects in multicultural environments.

The research is progressing as planned.

今後の研究の推進方策

The new fiscal year will include multiple visits to several high degree institutions within Japan. These will help acquire more data regarding how computer literacy is taught in multicultural environments. Both students and teaching staff will be interviewed before and after computer literacy courses take place, in particular those with high percentages of international students. The data gathered within Japan will be notably useful, considering the particularities of multicultural education at Japanese institutions.
