研究実績の概要 |
I spent most effort on Phase 1 of the project, as planned, and made significant progress. I developed methodologies for FIB, cryoFIB and in situ treatment of CdTe lamellae. I obtained successful samples with optimized conditions. I was able to control the surface condition of the specimens, and obtain samples with reduced density of crystalline dislocations. These samples allowed me to acquire first atomic resolution electron holograms. Further work is ongoing. I also began some preliminary work on Phase 2 (simulations). I set up the software environment, and began dynamical simulations of electron wave propagation through <110> oriented CdTe. I gave an invited talk at the Takahashi group at the Kavli Institute for Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (IPMU) at the University of Tokyo. We are trying to initiate a collaboration and hope to get it running this year.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
My main activities in FY2019 will be working on simulations, and experimental optimization. To achieve this goal, a key activity will be attendance at the CCEM electron microscopy workshop at McMaster University (Canada), to gain training on both simulations and experimental hardware optimization.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
Costs were lower than expected this year. Phase 1 and 2 proceeded very satisfactorily without needing much extra materials, and there was no appropriate workshop in this time period, so travel costs were low. Significant cost will be incurred in the next fiscal year (in particular, the workshop of highest relevance to this project will take place in June 2019). Furthermore, we are currently trying to begin a collaboration, on this subject, with the Kavli Institute in University of Tokyo, and thus budget may be reallocated for travel costs in FY2019 for visits to University of Tokyo..
