The main aim of this research is the study on the Formation and Transformation of the Spanish Colonial Fortification City System in Philippine Islands. This research is focus on the study on the Geographical Location, Urban Spaces and Architecture of the Colonial Fortified Cities created during more than three centuries during Spanish colonial period (1521 to 1898) over the coasts of the archipelago of Philippines, with the purpose to protect against attacks from abroad. The formation of this fortified cities will be clarified by the studies of historical documents and maps from Archives of Philippines and Spain. The transformation study is based on the field survey of its current Urban Spaces and Architecture. Clarifying the fortification city system in the Philippines, this research seeks to contribute and expand knowledge of the past and heritage of these cities. Research is currently finalising the categorisation of cartographic maps and old geographic, military, urban and architectural maps of the Philippines from the National Archives of the Philippines and the Archives of the Indies in Spain. Actually is in the final stages of studying the various literature on the relationship of Philippine-Spanish Fortification construction and technological features with other fortifications built in Europe and Latin America. Fieldwork has been carried in the areas of Visaya, in some localities of Cebu Island and in the area of Parian in Cebu City, and in Palawan island in the location of Taytay.

理由
During the fiscal year of 2019 the research progress includes data gathering, archival work, and field activities. For archival work, It has completed the collection of and categorization of cartographic maps and old geographic, military, urban, and architectural maps of Latin America and the Philippines, both from the Cartografia de Ultramar and the Archivo General de Indias in Spain. She is currently conducting a tabulation of the data gathered from these two sources in order to analyze the urban and architectural development of Latin America and the Philippines and the contextual relationship of this development to Latin Ameri-can and Philippine-Spanish fortifications. Upon completion of this analysis, a comparative study between the two regions in terms of the contextual development of military fortifications shall be conducted.
