研究実績の概要

Papers were presented at 2 international conferences. In August 2019, a paper entitled "Diverging Dynamics in Wildlife Tourism: Comparing Visitor Trends to Macaque Monkey Parks in Japan" was presented at the Royal Geographical Society (RGS) international conference in London. In February 2020 a paper entitled "Positioning ‘wild’ monkey parks on a non-consumptive wildlife tourism spectrum: Visitor perspectives from Takasakiyama Natural Zoo" was presented at the Critical Tourism Studies conference in Wakayama. Also, Dr Ronda Green, renowned expert and head of the Wildlife Tourism Australia society was invited to Japan and gave a Seminar at Ritsumeikan APU about how “Wildlife Tourism” is an emerging Keyword at the intersection of sustainability and tourism-based research, as managers and guides seek to pioneer methods of persuasive communication that can encourage responsible tourist behaviour.

理由

The research plan was disrupted by the outbreak of COVID-19. Plans to conduct interview & surveys were cancelled or postponed.

今後の研究の推進方策

Conduct a survey at Takasakiyama (TNZ). Also collaborate with Dr Ronda Green, head of the Wildlife Tourism Australia, regarding set-up of an Asia-Pacific chapter. I will apply for a grant with Dr. Rie Usui (Hiroshima University) from the Japan Institute for Tourism Research. As FY2020 will be the final year of the research project, we will disseminate the research outcomes and findings via presentations at conference and seminars, journal publications, etc including Wildlife Tourism Australia webinar in June 2020.

次年度使用額が生じた理由

Change of plan due to COVID-19 and subsequent travel restrictions including few international visitors to the Wildlife Parks. Instead we will use the Wildlife Tourism Australia webinar in June to publish a short report and drum up interest for an Asia-Pacific chapter. Due to COVID19, I was not able to go on several business trips as planned, which explains the remaining funds from FY2019.
