This year's research results fall into 2 categories: 1) Detailed exploration of the material for discriminating between the Periphrastic and Simple Future tenses; 2) Theoretical deepening of Galperin's step-by-step approach in two directions (work in progress). 1) The implementation was tested with a dyad of Japanese First Language learners at the initial level. We succeded in documenting a phenomenon of gradual and regular reduction of the volume of gestures and manipulations of the material during the task, which was interpreted as the manifestation of the process of internalization of the concepts represented in the material. This result is in every way consistent with the theoretical underpinnings of the approach, but to our knowledge it is the first time that it was observed in real time (Renoud, accepted). 2) - 1. Galperin noted that humans have developed the ability to imagine possible solutions to a problem never encountered before and to act mentally rather than applying routine behaviors. This relates to the same research tradition than that of microgenesis, on which our new project draws on (JSPS KAKENHI Grant Number JP22K13162). Specifically, in a given learning task the abbreviation of the material action into a mental action in Galperin’s approach reflects in reverse order the transition from simultaneity to serial order in Microgenetic Theory. - 2. It was suggested that the use of material representing the stages of mental action can be described within the theoretical framework of Extended Cognition (Renoud, accepted).
