研究実績の概要 |
During the research period, I have been able to achieve many things. In the first year, I was able to gain an understanding of just what causes anxiety when Japanese students study abroad, and the level to which this anxiety is apparent. Through this I was able to develop techniques for creating digital stories that would assist those students reduce their anxiety and have a more enjoyable study abroad experience, while being able to concentrate more on their English studies. Through the grant I was able to publish several studies and make new research contacts both domestically and internationally. Through this grant I was able to attend and present at ALANA 2018 in New Zealand, EuroCALL 2019 in England, and HICE 2019 in the USA. I was also able to attend several domestic conferences including JALT CALL and JALT National. Unfortunately, many of the conferences that I was scheduled to attend were cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID pandemic. Unfortunately COVID-19 prevented study abroad programs from taking place in 2020 and 2021. Therefore, in the past two years my research has moved more towards preparing for future research projects involving Japanese students and translation devices. This has demonstrated to me that there is a need to prepare students to use translation devices while studying overseas.
