研究実績の概要 |
The research project aimed at investigating the potential negative effect of explicit instruction on the incidental acquisition of grammatical structures that explicit instruction does not target in language classrooms. The first academic year was primarily spent developing the materials necessary for data collection. The first seven months were devoted to revising the seven stories and developing the error correction test for the precursor study, a new text reconstruction test, and a free production test. These materials were piloted with 25 undergraduate students at Kobe Gakuin University in November 2018. The data were analysed to examine whether the instrument/ test levels were appropriate for the learners. To expand the knowledge related to the project and discuss the study’s research methods, I attended the EuroSLA Conference in September 2018 and had a consultation meeting at Curtin University in January 2019. The conference offered an opportunity to consider including tests for individual differences, and the meeting helped me reorganise the research procedures.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
The test materials will be further revised and piloted during the first semester in 2019. Participants will also be selected within the first semester. Data, including the pre-test, treatment, and post-test, will be collected in the second semester. The transcription will be completed, we hope, by the end of the 2019 academic year. We did not use any personnel expenditures due to the delay in data collection. It will be used in the following academic year to transcribe the audio data.
