I have published 2 papers in the scope of this research project in international refereed journals. The main focus of the papers is to analyse the wage differences in formal sector from 2002 to 2014 in Vietnam by a) gender, and b) employees of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and of non-SOEs.
First, the study found evidence for a consistent gender wage gap, with the price of skills being the main contributor. However, labour market discrimination did not have a crucial influence. Some gender equality gained by the distribution of skills can be explained by the rise in women’s education and women's participation in specific industries, occupations, and the growing private sector.
Second, although SOE employees received higher pay in 2002 because of difference in characteristics and residuals, the difference in coefficients was minimal along the wage distribution during 2002-2014. The difference in characteristics decreased over time in middle and middle-to-high wage distribution groups. University graduates were the main contributor to the difference in endowments. By 2014, the residuals difference vanished and the pay schemes between SOEs and non-SOEs converged.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
I have completed two topics on the inequality/discrimination on the job market and would like to develop/improve further analysis on the following relationships: a) favoritism of politicians on home districts and response of firms; and b) favorable/unfavorable climate and human capital development.
First, I examine formal firm behavior in response to the favoritism of top-ranked politicians toward their districts of birth. Outcomes are number of firms, aggregated employment, and capital intensity. I also distinguish among firm ownerships.
Second, I investigate the effects of concurrent weather on test sites and consolidated weather during high school time, on the math test scores of census examinees participating in the Vietnamese national entrance examinations to universities and colleges.
