研究実績の概要 |
Visited Bangkok (Thailand) and Dublin (Ireland) to interview members of NGOs involved in issues related to sexual exploitation and violence against women. These included Chad Dai, Night Light, Urban Light, and ECXPAT in Thailand, and SWAI, the Rape Crisis Center, and the Sexual Assault Unit in Dublin. All groups participated in at least one sit-down interview that provided detailed first hand information on the problems faced by their groups in each country and the efforts the were making to promote legislative change at the government level.
In several cases, secondary interviews were also conducted with other members of these groups or some of the women that they represented in order to develop a broader understanding of the efficacy of the work being conducted. In Japan face to face interviews were carried out with lawyers from Tokyo Public Law Office and Otani and partners, both of which specialise in helping victims of sexual abuse or assault.
In Spring participated in the ARAT regional anti-human trafficking conference in Bangkok and the Global Studies Conference in Chiang Mai. In Autumn I gave a guest lecture on my research at Shotaku Gakuen in University and I also attended the 2nd International Conference on Sexual Violence in Prague. The organisers of the Prague conference have invited me to use my research as part of a book on Gender violence. The proposal for this book is currently being completed.

理由
The effects of Covid-19 have affected my ability to continue planned research in both Thailand and Ireland. My second stage of Thai research and third stage of Irish research may not be possible in the current situation. Because of this, at the moment I am refocusing my research to highlight the situation in Japan, i.e. rather than an equal focus on 3 countries, the current focus is on Japan with the two other countries being used to provide greater perspective and comparison. The ability to gather data from the two foreign targets will depend upon the Covid-19 situation. Apart form that my focus will be to use my research so far to produce articles and book chapters.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
Due to the effect of Covid-19 it may be impossible to travel for research in 2020 (at least until Autumn). The primary focus for this year will therefore be to compile articles (and hopefully a book - along with two co-authors) with final research travel conducted in Autumn/Winter.
If Covid restrictions allow it domestic travel to the Kansai region will be conducted during the Summer to meet with people in Osaka and Kyoto who are involved in issues of gender violence. Additional information will also be gathered through the use of surveys and video interviews with individuals in each of the three target countries.
By the beginning of 2021 it is hoped that the proposed book will be nearing completion and that several articles based on the research project will have been completed and processed for academic publication.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
The original target was to carry out a second research trip to Thailand that would focus on government employees and academics. A third trip to Ireland would have focused on academics and conducting a survey of public opinion. However, both those possibilities are now constrained due to Covid-19. Instead there will be a greater focus on domestic research that will ensure more robust data gathering on the Japanese aspect of the research question. In Autumn it is hoped that the book which will contain the research findings will be underway and I will seek to join an international conference to promote it and highlight its findings.
Participation in several other local and regional conferences, also to promote findings, will also be carried out where possible. The primary target for the coming year is thus to gather final first hand qualitative data form interviews and dissemination of research findings through conferences. If the planned book project is accepted by the publishers this Summer it is likely that the project will meet its original targets.
