| 研究実績の概要 |
This year saw the completion of the questionnaire used for the research, including an analysis of the validity and reliability of said assessment. Further, one article was published explaining the assessment and its statistical validity and reliability. Further progress in contacting individuals was made to try and get participants involved in the annual ALT conference. Although contact was made and the program was interested in including my participants, it was unfortunately difficult to accomplish this year. As progress on that front has not been great, the current study shifted focus to see the effect of courses taken by the participants for the improvement of their cultural competency. Students were able to successfully take the “Multiculturalism in Education” course and further data is being collected from students who have participated in a second course focusing on the cultures of foreign countries, “Education in Japan and Around the World.” Unfortunately, due to the timing of the course and the current global situation, this data has not been fully collected as of the writing of this report. Finally, to strengthen the knowledge and abilities of the researcher in cultural competency assessment, the researcher has further attended conferences based on this topic and researched possible training and certifications to validate his analyses.

理由
There are two main reasons for the delay. The first reason is again due to the targeted discussion with the Hiroshima Board of Education about including pre-service teachers into the ALT conferences. As stated above, progress has been made, but not to the point where students were able to participate. The researcher is still working on getting this opportunity set up. The second reason is due to the spread of the coronavirus. As a result of this virus, many conferences that were planned for the coming year have been cancelled or postponed. Further, the virus caused the closing of the university at a time that was designed for data collection. The data collection will continue once students are allowed back on campus but is currently on hold.

| 今後の研究の推進方策 |
For the purpose of continuing the current research even after the third kaken year, discussions will continue for trying to get permission to take participants to the coming year’s ALT conference. To strengthen the cultural analysis abilities of the researcher, participation in a three-day training for certification in the intercultural development inventory will be performed. Further, the researcher intends to give further presentations in international conferences, currently the largest being the annual American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages conference to be held in November. The current status of the conference, after the impact of the corona virus, is that it will still be happening, but the results of research proposal acceptance has at this point been postponed. Finally, the results of the analysis of the collected data will be written up for further publication.

| 次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
In the coming year, the budget will be used to share the results of the research in international conferences (requiring travel, accommodation, and conference attendance expenses) and for further certification of the researcher in assessing intercultural awareness. This certification will strengthen the impact of the results given.
