研究実績の概要 |
The primary research goals of this program were achieved at the very beginning of FY2020 with the publication of the paper on the ALMA observations of the forming binary protostar BHR 71 (Hull et al. 2020a, ApJ, 892, 152). Our new, ongoing work focus on studying polarization and magnetic fields in a much larger sample of protostars. The main new, relevant project is an ALMA study (on which I am one of the main co-investigators) of polarization in binary/multiple protostars in Orion. The analysis of those data are underway, with the first publications expected to come out in late FY2021.

理由
We have achieved the main goals of this grant, and are now continuing on with similar studies in much larger samples of sources (see the description above regarding the study of magnetic fields in a sample of binary/multiple protostars in Orion).

今後の研究の推進方策 |
The main relevant work going on in my group is on ALMA observations of magnetic fields in binary/multiple protostars. The data have been calibrated, and we have moved into the imaging phase. The plans over the next fiscal year are to perfect the imaging scripts, image all of the data (both the magnetic fields via the polarized dust emission, as well as several spectral lines), and start drafting the overview/survey paper.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
The main reason why expenditure was so low in FY2020 was because of the coronavirus pandemic. Assuming the situation improves, the remaining funding in this grant will be used to support ongoing work relevant to this project -- in particular travel expenses for conferences and collaborator visits.
