研究実績の概要 |
In FY 2019 the main results have been published in an international journal (https://doi.org/10.1029/2019JB019220). In this publication, I demonstrated the control of fluid pressure and fault weakening on the structural style of accretionary prism. I first derived an analytical solution that captures the first order phenomenon, then performed numerical simulation to quantify the predicted behavior. During the summer, I invited R. Spitz for a two-week visit. This collaboration also resulted in a publication in an international journal where I am co-author (https://doi.org/10.5194/se-2019-173). In this publication we investigated the control of 3D inherited geometry on the structure of a fold-and-thrust belt with application to the Helvetic nappes of Switzerland. I also visited colleagues at Uni. Rennes (France). Together, we are preparing a soon-to-be-submitted study about pressure-to-depth conversion methods for metamorphic rocks.

理由
In FY2019 the main results of the proposed plans were published, as well as a additional unplanned study. In FY2020 research is slower due to stay-at-home but I plan to submit at least one, and potentially two first author studies as part of this KAKENHI.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
Through this KAKENHI I answered some questions regarding the formation of accretionary prisms, and as a result other questions arose. In particular, going forward, I'm interesting in investigating more aspects of the interaction between rheology, fault strength evolution, and fluid flow on the initiation and evolution of detachment and accretionary prisms.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
The initial plan was to join conferences and invite a collaborator. However, due to COVID-19 those plans have been canceled. The remaining budget will be used to cover publishing cost and travel to visit collaborators within Japan, if the situation improves. The new simulations planned for FY 2020 require higher computation power, and thus I will buy a new computer.
