研究実績の概要 |
The model program was rewritten in Netlogo, which is open source and widely used all over the world for future propagation of the model. Sensitivity analysis of the model has enabled the identification of important parameters that need further investigation and refinement. Spatial interaction and emergent-phenomena analysis was carried out with the use of Pattern-oriented Modelling techniques, which enable the reduction of uncertainty in the model structure and parameters. Field studies were carried out both nationally and internationally (focusing on Nakoso district in Japan and Kageshwori district in Nepal) to validate the logic behind the decision-making processes used in the model. In this regard, student research thesis titled 「津波被災地における被災者の住宅移転・再建の実態と意思決定プロセス ーいわき市岩間地区を事例としてー」 was supervised by the PI focusing on the recovery decision-making process in Nakoso. Field studies in Nepal with different pre-existing conditions have also validated the underlying assumptions of the model. Spatial invariant-variant method is also used for analyzing the outputs to determine the process accuracy of the model. Currently Objective 1 and Objective 2 of the model are mostly complete. Objective 3 needs further work.

理由
In regards to Objective 2: We investigated the Nakoso district of Iwaki city which had different kinds of housing systems during recovery. Additionally, the area also had victims with varying ranges of rebuilding choices including those who rebuilt, those who newly migrated to the area, and those who left. Documenting the thought and decision-making processes of different types of populations has allowed us to determine the important parameters that must not be eliminated from the model. We also investigated the recovery decision-making in Kathmandu region of Nepal, asking the residents of the Kageshwori district about their circumstances and subsequent decision making to mostly either rebuild or move out of the region. The different levels of recovery support and policies in each country as well as the differences in the pre-existing conditions have allowed comparisons of process to pattern aspects and their inclusion in the model to reflect recovery decision-making of various types of communities.
A follow up visit to Nepal had been planned for the end of 2019 to have a thorough investigation done (since we were only able to survey a few respondents previously), but could not be conducted due to the COVID-19 outbreak. This visit is planned for later this year (as many factors are involved which make face-to-face interviews the best choice e.g. translator required, network conditions not good for online approaches), but we may need to reconsider the survey approach to other online possibilities according to the changes in the situation.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
During the investigation of the process it was found that system dynamics approaches are also a useful approach to model these kind of processes that are not as clear. The PI plans to investigate these approaches as well. Online workshop attendance is planned for Integrated Disaster Risk Management (IDRIM) 2020 Conference to gather further knowledge on recovery and further enhance the research network on recovery research. Most work this year will be focused on Objective 3 and publication of the outcome of the research. We hope to be able to reflect the insights from the survey onto our model and then use the model to determine the relationships between the likely typical recovery trajectories for particular community type combinations.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
Since there was disruption in data collection for Nepal and other locations, the amount expected to be used for travel in relation to that will be used this year. Other than this, a conference attendance and publication fee is also planned for this year. Other expenses are mostly for necessary consumables and research resources including equipment.
