研究実績の概要 |
Two types of hystidyl bolaamphiphiles with two amino acid heads and alkyl chain body with seven and twenty carbons were synthesized. The L-histidine bolaamphiphiles (7 and 20) were synthesized by the reaction of L-histidine methyl esters with azelaic acid and docosan-1,20-dioic acid, respectively. Then sodium hydroxide hydrolysis of the ester functions gave bolaamphiphiles. Verification of the His-C7 synthesis was carried out by means of 1H NMR spectroscopy. The NMR spectroscopic analysis demonstrated that dicarboxylic acids properly conjugate with the histidine methyl ester, whereas the imidazole unit in the histidine residue remained intact. The synthesized bolaamphiphile were dissolved in pH-controlled water to produce the self-assembly (5 mM) and then ZnCl2 salt were added (1 mM) to construct complexes with histidine imidazole moieties on the self-assembled surface. The SEM image confirms the formation of the self-assembly prepared at pH 7. The investigation of the aggregates revealed that the shape of the self-assembly is bloblike. The self-assembled particles were used as a filler to enhance the CO2 separation performance of water-soluble PEG-based polymers (Pebax 1657). 5 and 10 wt.% of the fillers were added into Pebax 1657 polymer for the development of mixed matrix membranes. 70-micron thick membranes were formed through a casting and evaporation technique. The gas separation results showed significant enhancement in both CO2 permeability (up to 200%), and CO2/N2 selectivity (up to 50%) compare with the neat polymer.

理由
Currently, the project is going smoothly based on the proposed research plan. Hystidyl bolaamphiphile structures have been synthesised successfully. These compounds have been used as building blocks to form enzyme mimetic particles. The results showed that the assembled hystidyl compounds in the presence of zinc salt showed catalytic activities for CO2 conversion. The particles have been utilized successfully into the structure of gas separation membranes. The concept of catalytic activity and the formation of facilitated transport membranes has been confirmed. Also, PEG based polymer materials have been developed as the matrix for fabrication of mixed matrix membranes.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
The main activities over next fiscal year would be concentrated on the following subjects: 1.Mechanistic understanding and optimization of the self-assembly of bolaamphiphiles through the characterization of micellization process and particle formation to achieve the highest CO2 facilitated transport and catalytic activity. 2.Mixed gas separation performance and measurement of membranes stability in real gas separation condition. 3.Development of thin films in the presence of mimetic enzymes and small size gas separation module.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
I have requested to transfer some budget from FY2019 to FY2018 to cover the personal cost of the researcher who is working in this project. Some money is remained due to the salary adjustment. I will use the rest of the budget to cover the part of the travel expenses for attending a conference this year.
