研究実績の概要

In this fiscal year, we have designed the fork type apertures to be placed at the condenser aperture plane to realize the separation of electron vortex beam with different angular momentum. We have discussed with several professional companies and research groups about how to make this aperture by using focused ion beam technology. We tested the design and the fabrication of the fork type aperture which has many details to be paid attention to. In the meanwhile, we have studied on 2D materials and published 1 book chapter and 7 papers including Adv. Funct. Mater., ACS Nano, Nanoscale, Chem. Mater., and ACS Appl. Mater. Interfaces.

理由

In order to select the vortex beam with different angular momentum, we need to modify the condense lens design in the electron microscope. We have discussed the modification with the electron microscopy developing engineers and which will be proceeded in the next fiscal year.

今後の研究の推進方策

We will spend the rest of the budget to the modification of condenser lens (CL) system by adding an additional aperture to the pre corrector lens plane for the purpose of selecting the vortex beam with different angular momentum. With the new setup of CL system and the fork type aperture, we will be able to perform single atom electron magnetic circular dichroism (EMCD) by using the vortex beam. We will focus on developing this vortex beam technique to study on low-dimensional materials. We plan to study the EMCD of single transition metal atoms embedded in 2D materials and investigate the magnetic moment of the metal atom under different bonding configurations.

The budget will be used for the modification of condenser lens system in the next fiscal year.
