ホモカルノシンを骨格筋において増加させる新規手法およびその生理機能の探索

研究実績の概要

In 2019, two main experiments have been achieved. Firstly, a large amount synthesis of homocarnosine has been successfully obtained. Secondly, the mouse model for muscle regeneration and the in vitro model of satellite cell function have been established for assessing potential physiological effects of dietary GABA and/ or homocarnosine on skeletal muscle. Furthermore, in addition to GABA and homocarnosine, we have also found other potents food factors that may possible enhance muscle repair and satellite cell function. These food factors will also be subjected to further studies.

The international collaboration has been established with researchers in the field of muscle diseases at McMaster University, Canada. This will lead to expanding and elevating the present works in the future.

理由

Currently, the research has progressed smoothly as planed. The muscle regeneration experiment is ongoing. Effects of GABA and homocarnosine on satellite cell functions will be tested using the in vitro model soon during this year.

今後の研究の推進方策

In the future, this novel idea of introducing the new muscle peptide will be proposed to society. If possible, the implementation in human health would be a promising approach for improving muscle health in the aging society. The mouse model of muscle regeneration and the in vivo model of satellite cells function will be applied to further screening for more potent food factors that can improve skeletal muscle health. Moreover, the present study has provided us some new information of the link of GABA and homocarnosine in brain. This new information may open a new window to look into the unknown function of homocarnosine in brain.
