This year was the final year of the grant. Due to the corona virus, we has moved some of the remaining budget from FY 2019 to FY2020 to allow our group to gather more samples from Okinawa. In this year, we were able to sample at locations in Sesoko, Odo, and near Mizugama. This year, we were mainly focused on soft coral (Octocorallidae), examining the diversity of apicomplexans in this group. Samples were collected and stored in Ethanol and paraformaldehyde. In total, we collected 150 specimens from 8 locations. Samples are currently being identified and genomic DNA will be extracted from theses samples. We are also preparing these samples for histological observations.
