In this year showed the organizational principle of spine synapses in the dendrites of different neurons. We showed that the PSD content unit length of dendrite scales positively with the dendritic diameter in CA1 proximal stratum radiatum, somatosensory cortex and in the striatum. We also showed the presynaptic connectivity pattern and the distribution of endoplasmic reticulum in several brain nuclei which contains dendritic spines. All these research results have been published in the eNeuro journal in October (Parajuli et al., 2020, Eneuro.0248-20.2020). Importantly, we also showed that the synapse morphology and the development of the synapses in the striatum is impaired in the Parkinson`s mouse model. We observed that the spine density decreases, and the spine head volume increases with age in the control mouse. However, the inverse relationship between head volume and spine density was not observed in the mutant mouse. The research result was published in eNeuro journal in August (Parajuli et al., 2020, Eneuro.0072-20.2020). Next, we showed the very atypical morphology of dendrites and the synaptic contacts in the interpeduncular nucleus. This research result is published in the Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communication journal (Parajuli et al., 2020, BBRC).
