In 2020, I have successfully published multiple articles regarding the study of sperm-egg fusion and made important progress towards the understanding of the molecular functions of other proteins required for male reproduction. The discovery of new molecules required for sperm-egg fusion (including SPACA6, TMEM95, SOF1 and FIMP) is of great significance for unraveling the detailed mechanisms underpinning this important reproductive events. Due to its spatiotemporal dynamic nature, the study of the gamete fusion process is extremely challenging. By identifying more molecules required for the membrane fusion between sperm and eggs, we will be able to acquire a comprehensive understanding of this process.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
I would like to carry out more in-depth analyses on the molecules involved in sperm-egg fusion, so as to acquire a deeper understanding of the mechanism underlying this important reproductive event. Through CRISPR/Cas9-based knockout strategy, my ultimate goal is to identify the bona fide fusogen that mediates the membrane fusion between sperm and eggs.
