研究実績の概要 |
We have developed and optimized a system to analyze intramolecular D/H isotope composition of propane from natural gas.
The system is based on previous system developed for 13C/12C isotope ratio determination, but had to be optimized in order to allow the measurement of all pyrolytic fragments from propane, including H2.
We showed that H-atom scrambling occurs during the pyrolysis of propane, which alters the original signature obtained. But, we showed using propane samples D-enriched on specific positions that the scrambling is reproducible and can be accounted for easily.

理由
The main reason that we spent time to develop the method is because we needed to work on conditions for good peak spearations, especially from small fragments (H2 and CH4). Thus, this took effort and also machine time.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
Future plan include: (i) calibration of the method with samples which intramolecular D/H isotope composition have been measured by NMR. For this, a collaboration with Texas Tech is ongoing. (ii) Simulating propane formation at different temperature by doing thermal cracking of hydrocarbons. This will assess the potential of D/H raio as a geothermometer (iii) analyzing propane from natural gas samples of different origins (abitoic, thermogenic, biodegraded samples) in order to determine their temperature of formation.

次年度使用額が生じた理由 |
We were planning to buy small equipments and consumables for thermogenic simulation experiments but they were a bit delayed. Next year we will use the remaining budget to buy this equipment and consumables.
The remaining budget will also be used to travel to AGU2019.
