研究概要

植物の光形態形成を制御している光受容色素蛋白質フィトクロムの構造と機能を解明するために,開環状テトラピロール骨格を有するビリン系発色団の一般合成法を開発し,多くの新知見を得た。例えば,CD環部分の立体化学を固定したビリベルジン(BV)型発色団を合成し,生理学的に不活性で赤色光吸収型のフィトクロム(Pr)における発色団15位の立体化学はZ-antiであり,生理学的に活性で遠赤色光吸収型のPfrではE-antiであることを世界で初めて直接的に解明した。さらにAB環部分の立体化学も解明するなど,有機合成化学を基盤とするフィトクロム研究が極めて有効で,必須の研究手法であることを示すことができた。
