研究概要

分極反転を示す液晶性尿素化合物の構造を最適化することによって、応答速度が速く、電圧除去後も分極を保持するような柱状液晶相の実現を試みた。アルキル鎖長を長くすることによる自発分極の減少により、柱状分子集合体の分極構造を解明し、分子長をV字形状のまま伸長することにより、液晶温度の低温化と応答速度の向上を実現できた。また、尿素分子の両アームにある酸素原子がスイッチングに必要であることが判明した。
