研究概要

これまでの研究により、チンパンジーが1回の出産のために数百回から千回以上の交尾を行うことがわかっている。なぜこれほどまで多くの回数の交尾を行うかという理由としては、これまで様々な仮説が提唱されてきているが、未だ解決はみていない。本研究では、メスのチンパンジーの性行動、遊動・採食行動、生まれた子どもの生存率を調べて、1)1回の出産のために要する月経サイクル数と交尾の回数、2)早期流産の頻度と妊娠しにくさの関係、3)交尾行動や生涯産子数にかかわるコスト、4)不妊期間中の多数回交尾によってもたらされるベネフィットについて明らかにするものである。
