研究概要

上丘は従来、急速眼球運動(サッケード)の生成に関与することが知られているが、サッケード開始の引き金となるメカニズムは長い間不明であった。一方、上丘の前方には固視機能に関与する部分があることが示唆されてきた。本研究で、上丘からのサッケードの発現機構と固視の発現機構は相互に抑制し合っており、この相互抑制が、サッケード開始の引き金に関与することが明らかとなり、眼球運動研究の歴史での長い間の謎が解明できた。
