研究概要

半導体の微細加工で作製されるナノサイズの箱、量子ドット、はしばしば人工原子と呼ばれる。人工原子のスピンが1/2のとき、金属中の磁性不純物と同様の近藤効果が観測される。人工原子を微小なリングに埋め込んだ系、量子ドットを2つ並べた人工分子、強いスピン軌道相互作用がはたらく人工原子、等での近藤効果を理論的に研究し、この多体問題の新しい物理学を開拓した。人工原子などの半導体ナノ構造におけるスピンの制御は量子コンピューターやスピントロニクスへの応用につながる。スピン注入、およびトンネル磁気抵抗の基礎研究を進展させた。
