A trend to capture subconscious and unbiased data through implicit methods is growing. Interestingly, eye-tracking technology provides a moment-by-moment assessment of thought processes. Moreover, this non-invasive neurophysiological technology has been proposed to be the most effective in revealing information that conventional research would normally miss. Yet, few investigations have been done taking advantage of eye-tracking to study visual attention among patients with schizophrenia (SZ). Since many psychiatric patients encounter cognitive impairments (Wolf et al., 2021), the aim of this project was to investigate their decision-making processes. Despite the difficult situation due to the COVID-19, we have tested 32 normal participants and 32 patients with SZ. Based on obtained data, visual behavior is tightly linked to decision-making, where viewing time, as well as gaze-related metrics, appear to be a useful index of the extent of information processing. The behavior data analysis has been finalized, whereas the detailed eye-movement data analysis is being carried on. Our published work in Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences has been granted a high appreciation among the scientific audience. The systematic review (Wolf et al., 2020) has been recognized as a "Top Cited Article 2020-2021." In addition, the publication in Frontiers in Psychology (Wolf and Ueda, 2021) has been presented as an oral contribution during the Conference of the International Society for Psychophysics (Fechner Day 2021). Finally, an open-access E-Book was published in Frontiers.

理由
We have published a scoping review and a perspective article in international referee journals, i.e., Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences, and Frontiers in Psychology. We have obtained enough amount of data for publication with both healthy participants and schizophrenic patients, despite the pandemic. Two online oral presentations in international conferences were done. Besides, the Frontiers Research Topic entitled Consumer’s Behavior beyond Self-Report (viewed 46,017 times as of 25th of April 2022) unified influential researchers and the latest key findings in the subfield of neuromarketing, which resulted in publishing an open-access E-Book (DOI: 10.3389/978-2-88971-709-5).

今後の研究の推進方策 |
The data analysis is now going on. We are planning to present an interim report at a couple of international conferences, and continuing our effort for publication. Because Dr. Wolf got a position in RIKEN, the new research environment will enlarge her research areas and collaborations.
