研究実績の概要 |
(i) Field work: Field visits to Ishikawa, Japan (Satoyama site) was completed in November 2019. First field visit to the study site in India was completed (Nov 17 - Dec 21, 2019) during which the researcher conducted 21 expert interviews and 4 Focus Group Discussions with the local community of the study area in Reckong Peo, Urni, Kalpa and Sangla (Himachal Pradesh, India). Field visit to Miyazaki, Japan (Satoyama site) could not be completed in this financial year due to budget limitations.
(ii) Land use mapping (completed during field visit to India): Land cover assessment for 2005, 2012 and 2019 of the study area was undertaken in collaboration with National Remote Sensing Centre, Government of India, using IRS P6 LISS III data (23.5m spatial resolution) for the year 2005; and Landsat OLI data (30m spatial resolution) for the years 2012 and 2019. Classified land cover data of 2019 was used as a reference in mapping changes in land cover of 2005 using visual interpretation method.
(iii) Literature review and secondary data analysis: Socio-economic information for the study area was reviewed and available government data on the websites has been collected. To understand the landscape processes associated with the Satoyama Initiative, 66 mountain area case studies were analysed out of 195 total cases submitted to the Secretariat of the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI). This review elicited information about the key drivers and pressures in these areas and the response strategies to tackle environmental and socioeconomic change.

理由
The research plan for this financial year was to complete two field visits in Japan and one visit to India for the collection of primary data; land use mapping of the study area; and desk review of available information. This plan was successfully completed. In addition, I contributed to two book chapters of Springer series in Nov 2019 and Jan 2020 which will be published by the end of this year. I prepared two other papers which are to be sent for publication in this financial year. I was also an Expert Reviewer of the First draft of the 6th Assessment Report (Working Group III) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. In March 2020, I became the Climate Adaptation Ambassador of the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, Germany and Certified Expert in Climate Adaptation Finance.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
(i) Field work: Field visits to Satoyama sites in Japan and one field visit to India for household survey in the study area to collect data for ecosystem mapping, vulnerability assessment and risk perception. (ii) Analysis of collected data: The collected data from the previous visits will analyzed and a research paper will be prepared based on the analysis. The collected secondary information will be reviewed to find out the policy and capacity gaps vis-a-vis the gaps highlighted by the local community. (iii) Objectives of the research: The objectives and all major tasks of this research are to be completed in this financial year which includes completion of vulnerability assessment of the selected study area and development of an adaptation framework for the mountain landscapes. (iv) Research publications: Two book chapters, two research papers and one policy brief are expected to be published by the end of this financial year. (v) Documentary: Preparation of a short documentary on problems faced by the local mountain community, landscape changes and community’s suggestions to improve sustainability.
