研究実績の概要

During FY2019, the focus was on developing the research framework and methodology through site survey, and on identifying the availability of the secondary data. These activities were conducted during field surveys in FY2019. The purpose of the field activities was to check research feasibility, and obtain a better understanding and background information through baseline data for the research subject and location. Datasets related to water supply and climate (including surface air temperature and rainfall) were obtained during the data collection mission in Malaysia, Sabah. This available data will be used to model changes in rainfall patterns and air temperature by connecting it with the altered hydrological system due to climate change towards the impact onto the water resources and supply. The remaining secondary data needs will be determined after the pre-analysis of the obtained data, and will be collected during FY2020. At the same time, during FY2019 the fellow attended conferences for improving academic connection and more importantly for receiving comments, inputs and feedbacks from other researchers on the research topic.

理由

Most of the research plans have been achieved and conducted. Data collection and field survey were successfully conducted for developing the research background and framework. The other secondary data that could not be obtained will be collected during FY2020. The scholar also has done the JSPS Orientation, contributed to Science Dialogue for JSPS, and overall for her research plan direction is on the right track and following the research plan. Hydrological and climate modeling for the future climate change effects on regional water balance, water use & demand were not done in this fiscal year, but will be performed in the next fiscal year of FY2020.

今後の研究の推進方策

During FY2020, the scholar expects to obtain preliminary results and findings from the analysis that will inform better the development of the field research protocol. It is expected that the scholar will undertake field experiments and data collection at her selected study location (measurement in-situ water yield, quality, meteorological variables measurement, questionnaire/interviews and data collection from organization/government bodies, and performing a lot of data analysis for the research. However, some of the activities depend on the situation with COVID-19. The scholar expects to develop relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals and present it at the international conference. The scholar will be also attending few workshops according to the FY2020 work plan, such as WASP, WEAP, QUAL2KW water quality modeling and simulation, advanced training/workshop for remote sensing, GiS and Cordex GCM for climate model if the condition permitted especially during this Pandemic virus of COVID-19.
