研究実績の概要 |
The purposes of this international research project are three-fold. First, this project aims to survey recent policy changes and development related to retirement (older worker employment) and public pension in key countries in Asia including Japan, South Korea, and China. The goal of the set of survey and analyses is to analyze the current and future situations surrounding older people and to find ways to retain rapidly aging Asian countries sustainable in the coming decades, when population aging will likely affect individuals’ quality of later life. Second, this project is dedicated to develop a set of policy recommendations on these issues based on systematic cross-national comparative research. Third, the project aims to disseminate the academic research findings and policy suggestions/recommendations not only to relevant academic circles but also to a range of non-academic organizations.

理由
From the first to the previous fiscal year, this international research project has made progress at the level at which most of the pre-planned achievements have been accomplished. To date, this project has delivered a total of nine presentations of the tentative research outcomes on a variety of platforms including academic conferences and open-to-public forums. Key members of this project have also successfully arranged and carried out self-driven academic conferences in which some of the key research findings were disseminated in public. To date, a total of twelve articles have been published including peer-reviewed journal articles, policy papers, and professional newsletter articles, among others. The data gathering activities have been hindered to some extent and have been forced to be behind the schedule due to the persistent prevalence of the global health crisis of COVID-19. That being said, to date, a greater number of conference presentations and article publications have been done than the number expected at the early stage of this whole project. Overall, this project has to date made progress at a level of moderate success.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
During this fiscal year (from April 2022 through March 2023), this international research project aims to achieve the following five objectives: First, following what was done during the previous years, this project will continue gathering and analyzing original data (quantitative and qualitative) through carrying out ongoing questionnaire-based surveys and field research activities including individual and group interviews. Second, this project will continue disseminating the research findings in academic communities through journal article publications and conference presentations. Third, it will also continue expanding the individual and institutional networks of researcher in relevant fields in order to further expand the areas of outcome disseminations and future research activities. Fourth, it will then start developing a book proposal and find an appropriate academic publisher to submit the proposal for near-future publications as part of the summary of this whole international research project. Fifth, this project will arrange and carry out workshops or forums (at least twice during this fiscal period) primarily targeting policymakers in three Asian countries as a platform to deliver a set of policy recommendations that this project will have developed by the end of this fiscal year.
