北極圏における氷河起源ダストが氷晶核分布に与える影響の評価

研究実績の概要

氷形成能力を有するエアロゾル粒子（氷晶核粒子：Ice Nucleating Particles）の存在は、極微量であっても、地球の気候や生態系に多大な影響を及ぼす。北極域の下層大気（数百メートル～数キロメートルの高度）では、年間を通して混相雲（過冷却水滴と氷晶が混在する雲）が頻繁に発生している。北極域混相雲内での氷形成過程には、氷晶核粒子の存在が必要であるが、北極域の大気中における氷晶核粒子の濃度は、非常に低く、その変動も比較的小さいと考えられていた。しかし、スヴァールバル諸島・ニーオルスンにて数回実施してきた短期集中観測からは、夏季に氷晶核粒子の濃度が大幅に増加していることが示唆された（Tobo et al., 2019, Nat. Geosci.）。そこで本研究では、夏季の高緯度域で発生する氷河起源ダスト（氷河堆積物から大気中へと飛散したダスト）の影響に着目し、スヴァールバル諸島における大気中での氷晶核粒子およびダスト粒子の時間・空間変動を通年観測によって明らかにしていくことを計画している。最終年度においても、前年度までと同様、スヴァールバル諸島のZeppelin山観測所（海抜約474メートル地点）にて、自動エアロゾルサンプラーを用いた氷晶核計測用のエアロゾル試料の通年サンプリング、多段式インパクターを用いたエアロゾル粒子や雲残渣粒子の粒径別のサンプリングなどを継続して実施した。現地から持ち帰ったこれらの試料に関しては、国立極地研究所と気象研究所で分析を進め、スヴァールバル諸島の上空におけるダスト粒子を含めたエアロゾル粒子や氷晶核粒子の季節変動について確認し、その原因に関する考察を進めた。さらに、現地で得られた氷河起源ダストの氷晶核能をパラメタリゼーション化し、気候－エアロゾルモデルに導入することによって、氷河起源ダストが北極域下層雲内での氷晶形成に及ぼす影響についての検証を行った。
