研究実績の概要 |
Until this point, the main research achievements have been: 1) the production of a software package, called lefko3, for the statistical programming language R focused on the production and analysis of historical matrix projection models (MPMs), 2) a major research paper introducing this package in the internationally well-respected journal Methods in Ecology and Evolution, 3) a draft manuscript of a theoretical paper exploring the impact of individual history on deterministic population dynamics, and 4) the presentation of this R package and intros to it in the British Ecological Society Annual Meeting, the Ecological Society of America Annual Meeting, the Evolutionary Demography Society Annual Meeting, and the Ecology in R Network. The package lefko3 is currently available via the CRAN repository, which is the most well-respected repository for R packages. It has been updated several times in the last few months to increase functionality and power, and to address bugs. The journal paper in Methods in Ecology and Evolution was published in January 2021. The presentations mentioned were primarily live oral presentations given online in virtual meetings, except for the Ecological Society of America meeting, which was given as a poster.

理由
I originally envisaged that I would release my R package, lefko3, at the very end of the 2nd year of the grant. However, I beat our timeline and released it in the middle of the 2nd year, yielding more time to devote to the planned theoretical and empirical papers. This gives us more time to devote in this year to advanced research using the package, developing and running workshops on its use, and making the package more powerful, functional, and accessible.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
This year is devoted to theoretical and empirical research on individual history, particularly using lefko3. My last post-doc, funded on this grant, is finishing a theory paper dealing with this topic, and I have hired a new post-doc to continue to the next step. I am currently putting together a large-scale analysis of around 20 demographic datasets to assess the empirical impact of individual history. I also currently have two students working on empirical examples of individual history in demography, using two populations of Pyrola spp. that are being monitored using this funding.
