研究実績の概要 |
This year saw the development of the main R software package, lefko3, that includes functions for the construction and analysis of historical matrix projection models. This package was put online in November. We also published the paper introducing this package in Methods in Ecology and Evolution, and that was published in the January issue. We further conducted four online workshops dealing with the use of this package, including three small workshops advertised to the world's ecologists through the Ecolological Society of America's main listserv and through the Ecological Society of Japan's main listserv. A further workshop was conducted as a part of the Power Demography annual lecture series that Prof. Takenori Takada (U Hokkaido) and I put together. The first post-doctoral scientist hired for this project ended his time in the lab at the end of this year. That individual has been developing a major paper on the theory behind the influence of individual history on stationary population dynamics using eigen analysis of the matrix projection model. The paper is proceeding nicely, and has been expanded to include help from Prof. Takada, who is an expert on mathematical evolutionary biology.

今後の研究の推進方策 |
In the next year, we will focus primarily on developing the theoretical papers for this work, and start developing the core empirical comparison of methods using individual history or not to determine the extent to which our methods improve over existing methods in matrix projection analysis. We have also hired a new post-doctoral researcher to help with these goals.
