研究実績の概要 |
In the past fiscal year, we dedicated significant effort to demonstrating the strong coupling between surface acoustic waves (phonons) and spin waves (magnons). We designed and fabricated surface acoustic wave devices incorporating acoustic reflectors to form an acoustic cavity. This cavity effectively reduces phonon losses, while our devices utilize a ferromagnetic layer with low magnetic damping. Through careful engineering of our magneto-acoustic wave devices, we achieved the groundbreaking observation of strong magnon-phonon coupling in an on-chip device at room temperature, a first-of-its-kind worldwide. Our achievement was published in Physical Review Letters (Physical Review Letters 132 (5), 056704, 2024) and was selected as an Editor's suggestion, and earned a spot on the front cover of the journal issue. Furthermore, it produced highlights in Science Magazine and RIKEN. We believe that our demonstration of strong magnon-phonon coupling paves the way for exciting advancements in wave-based information and communication technologies, opening up intriguing avenues for further research and development.
