研究成果の概要

各メンバーが研究論文を発表した。研究代表者は『コールリッジ、シェリング、その他の動的観念論者における物質と生命』という本の序章と2章を執筆した。他のメンバーも1章ずつ執筆した。この本は現在、シュプリンガー・ネイチャー社シリーズで出版されることが決まっている。各章には、19世紀の物質論、心の理論、力の形而上学、人種論、種の進化、生命の定義、文学・宗教・文化と生物学の関係についての研究が含まれている。研究代表者はまた、エネルギーから生じる物質に関するライプニッツとカントの理論に対するコールリッジの理解について、20世紀と21世紀の物理学を広く先取りした論文を日本語と英語で発表している。

研究成果の学術的意義や社会的意義

This project showed how idealist philosophy from 1650-1850 anticipated 20th- and 21st-century physics, as both saw matter arising from energy. It also examined historical theories of what life is and how it arises. Socially significant, it highlights the value of ecology and circulation of energy.
