Due to the covid situation it was not possible to hold any further face-to-face meeting. Thus, the planned meeting of the participants at Tsukuba University in 2022 had to be cancelled. However, during the past year the individual participating members of the project have continued to work on their written contributions and have stayed in contact with one another. Peter Cheyne has obtained a contract from the publishing house Routledge, London, for the publication of an anthology of the research results entitled "Perfection and Imperfection in Art and Everyday Life". The book is the major research output of this project and contains 27 essays by the Principal Investigator, the Co-Investigators, and project members from around the world. The book presents interdisciplinary research on the aesthetics of imperfection in philosophical aesthetics, music, literature, urban environment, architecture, art theory, and cultural studies. Written by researchers in these disciplines, the essays connect the aesthetics of imperfection with issues affecting everyday life in areas including urban planning, consumerism, environmentalism, and the shaping of a social ethos. Established authors in the aesthetics of imperfection, notably Ted Gioia, Andy Hamilton, and Yuriko Saito, are joined by a wide range of researchers whose theoretical and empirical approaches broaden the field of inquiry. During the period of the project several other studies of the concepts of perfection and imperfection in art and aesthetics have appeared, justifying the timeliness of the project.
